Denny’s Place Barbers, the namesake of the late and great Denny Rowe.
Denny, the seventh son of seven sons, was tutored by his father Syd in Hull from the age of thirteen. Syd, a World Class Champion Barber, later became a founding member of the Yorkshire National Hairdressers Federation.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Denny went on to cut hair all over the world to high acclaim. His travels, adventures and, most importantly, his philanthropy lead him to be recognised as an Official Guinness World Record Holder. Shaving a staggering 1,994 men in just one hour, Denny was crowned the Worlds Fastest Barber. This record still stands firm today and Denny nearly beat it himself, on the fifth occasion he attempted the record, after running out of volunteers at 1,990 shaved and 15 minutes to go. These Record attempts, as well as other events Denny organised or participated in, left behind a charitable legacy of over £75,000.
Denny’s Place Barbers came to exist in late 1999 as Denny’s adventures finally led him to Tunbridge Wells. A real pillar of the community and widely respected, before he sadly departed us in 2013.
The Barber Shop has stayed in the family with Denny’s daughter Storm taking the reigns. Taught by her father as Denny was taught by his, this incredible Barber tradition continues. Over the years, our customers and colleagues have become part of this family and tradition and we are proud to be a part of this community.
